IACCP remembers Deon Meiring
We inform you with great sadness that Prof. Deon Meiring passed away unexpectedly on Friday 4 October 2019. He had been the regional representative of IACCP for Central and Southern Africa between 2012-2019. He also chaired the committee which hosted the 21st IACCP conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 2012. This conference was a huge success, and Deon played a crucial role in achieving this.
Deon’s contribution to the field of cross-cultural psychology worldwide was significant. He was responsible for connecting individuals from across the globe to participate and complete ambitious research projects. Many of these collaborations had their origins at IACCP conferences, which Deon attended unfailingly. Within his local context, South Africa, Deon was a major contributor in the development and validation of the South African Personality Inventory (SAPI) project, which give rise to the first comprehensive and inclusive indigenous personality inventory for all language groups in South Africa.
He was a beloved and respected member of the IACCP community whose kindeness and smiles will be remembered by all of those who met him. We will miss his friendship, generosity, and hospitality.
