Michele Gelfand New Honorary Fellow

Michele GelfandCitation read at the 2018 Guelph Congress by Patricia Greenfield, chair of the selection committee:

On behalf of the Awards Committee – myself, Prof Paul Bain, and Prof. Ayse Uskul – I am delighted to announce that the 2018 honorary fellow is Professor Michele Gelfand of the University of Maryland. Prof. Gelfand was nominated by Prof. Yoshi Kashima, a former president of IACCP.

Prof. Kashima summarized his nomination by saying Prof Gelfand “is an energetic and tireless advocate of cross-cultural psychology; [she] has put the perspective and value that the IACCP embodies on the agenda of psychology and the emerging interdisciplinary research on cultural evolution. Her contribution to the field and the IACCP deserves to be recognized in the form of an Honorary Fellowship, the highest recognition that our association can confer upon a scholar for career achievement. Michele has accomplished much to deserve that award, but in her case, we can do so trusting that she will continue to blaze the trail into the uncharted terrain that her future promises.”

As this year’s Honorary Fellow, Prof. Gelfand will give a plenary address at the next IACCP Congress, which will take place in 2020 in Czech Republic. I hope that many of you will be able to attend. It is sure to be a scientifically notable event.

Although she is not here, let’s all join in congratulating Prof. Michele Gelfand, our 2018 IACCP Honorary Fellow!
